Can I get all my data back if I cancel a software subscription?
Ownbox is a one-time purchase. Managed Support hosting is optional. If you cancel, your data is still yours and exports in full. Move your Ownbox anytime.

Ownbox is not a software subscription—it's a one-time purchase. The optional Managed Support subscription covers hosting and updates. If you cancel it, your Ownbox runs for 30 days. You can then move it to your own server in one click, or ask Ownbox to power it down safely. All your data exports in full.
Software purchase models
Most software you buy falls into two categories. A one-time purchase gives you ownership; a subscription gives you access as long as you pay. The risk with subscriptions is lock-in: your data may be held in a proprietary database that only works inside the subscription, so cancelling means losing your work.
What Ownbox is
Ownbox is not a software subscription. You purchase the Base Machine once, and it is yours. Managed Support—the monthly subscription—covers hosting, updates, monitoring and daily backups. Every checkout includes the first three months free.
What happens when you cancel Managed Support
Managed Support is the optional hosting service. If you cancel it:
- Your Ownbox keeps running for 30 days.
- You can move it to your own DigitalOcean account in one click.
- Or you can ask Ownbox to power it down and keep it safe.
In all cases, your data stays yours.
Why your data is yours
Everything your business knows lives in one database file on your own server. That database is yours—you can see it, access it, back it up or export it. When you cancel Managed Support, you do not lose access to this file. You can export everything in full at any time, whether you keep running on your server or not.
Moving to your own server
You can move your Ownbox to your own DigitalOcean account whenever you want, not just after cancellation. Once it is there, you run it on your own terms. The system, the code and the data are yours.
The difference this makes
Unlike platforms that store your data in their vaults, Ownbox puts everything in one place you own: on your own server. This is why you can leave without losing your work. It is also why you can move Ownbox to another provider, or run it on your own infrastructure, if you choose to.
