# Glossary

| Term | Means |
|---|---|
| Approvals | The owner's page of decisions waiting for a person: builds, review cards, proposals. |
| `BoxRefused` | The exception a refused call raises; `.code` says why. |
| Card | A machine's block on another screen, declared with `m.panel`. |
| Custom machine | A machine someone other than Ownbox wrote, run in its own locked unit. |
| Data run | The dry run on the owner's real data that reaches nothing. |
| Door | The one way a machine reaches the Ownbox: `from core import sdk`. |
| Dry run | A test run on the Ownbox before the owner approves. |
| Fetch run | The dry run that reaches only the hosts the owner tapped, on sample data. |
| Grant | What the owner approved, never more than the machine asked for. |
| Job | A function the Ownbox runs on a schedule, declared with `m.every`. |
| Local Ownbox | The Ownbox `ownbox run` and `ownbox preview` start on your computer, with sample data. |
| Morning Review | The owner's daily summary; a machine adds its part with `m.reporter`. |
| Ownbox | One business's AI system, on a server no other business shares. It runs that business's machines, and its data and its code are the business's. |
| Partner Ownbox | An Ownbox where Ownbox approves a machine as well as the owner. |
| Permission | One line under `permissions:` in machine.yaml. |
| Review card | The card on Approvals that holds a finished build until a person approves it. |
| screen.json | The blocks a page answers with, drawn by the Ownbox. |
| Service key | A secret for another company's API, attached by the Ownbox, never read by the machine. |
| Slug | The machine's own name: its folder, its address `/my/<slug>`, its `sdk.machine("<slug>")`. |
| Step key | The `key=` on a call that acts, so a retry never acts twice. |
| Unit | The locked place a machine runs: its own user, no network, no file of the Ownbox's. |
